Submitted By: Renee Oelschleger on behalf of Brian Gedrich
Department: Engineering
Financial Impact and Cost/Benefit Considerations: Construction contracts for this project are in the bidding process and the final award is to be presented at the January 2019 Board of Directors meeting.
Discussion
Recommendation to approve the contract for services to upgrade transmission line from 1/0 ACSR 69kV to 795 ACSR Bundled 138kV, including 25 miles of line and 187 galvanized steel transmission poles. This project addresses various issues that have been identified with these lines including NESC clearance violations, structural issues, and failed pole inspections. The transmission line upgrade improves the existing line by converting the 69 kV transmission voltage to 138 kV, allowing for bundled conductor construction to increase line rating, adding optical ground wire fiber to improve communications and reliability, and allowing an additional transmission line to be installed on the same structures.
